Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome all of you to the 2020-2021 school year at Pike-Delta-York High School. There is no doubt this year will look and feel different as we bring students and staff back into the building. Hopefully you have been able to view the district reopening plans on the district website which details safety precautions and procedures that will be in place. All students and staff will be required to wear a face mask as part of a state of Ohio directive. I am excited to transition from my previous role as the middle school principal to my role as high school principal. This year promises to be a challenging, yet an exciting and productive one together, as we strive to fulfill the School’s mission of… “upholding the basic premise that all students can learn. We are committed to developing all students to their fullest potential so they may become competent, productive, socially responsible citizens in a rapidly changing and increasingly complex society. Therefore, we will encourage students to reach their highest level of academic performance, while fostering positive development of their health, attitudes, and behaviors”. We look forward to working with you to promote your student’s overall well-being and academics. Some important announcements for this school year follow in this letter.
First, our late bell rings at 8:05am, which is 5 minutes earlier than previously. If the student is not in his or her 1st period classroom at that time they will be marked tardy. Dismissal remains at 2:50pm. Please be sure to not send your student to school if they have a temperature above 100 degrees or if experiencing other symptoms associated with COVID-19. Our policy is for you to call the school if your student will be absent that day for any reason. A hand-written note must accompany the student upon return and turned into the office within one week. Third, please review the student handbook located on the district website under the high school tab, please pay special attention to the dress code.
We look forward to our partnership with you as we promote the growth of your student both socially and educationally. Please feel free to contact me personally with any questions or concerns you may have.
Yours in Education,
Douglas J. Ford
