Pike Delta York Local School District (PDY) is proud to announce a new partnership with Dreamland Farms, a locally owned farm providing high-quality, Northwest Ohio-raised beef for use in district cafeterias.

Owned and operated by Saul Triana, a proud Wauseon FFA alum, Dreamland Farms officially launched in March 2024 with just three Wagyu steers. What began as a small venture quickly grew into a thriving local operation as demand for premium, locally raised beef increased across the region.

“We officially started Dreamland in March 2024 with just three Wagyu steers,” said Triana. “We fell in love with having cattle on the farm almost instantly, so by April 2024 we expanded the herd. It didn’t take long to realize how much demand there is in our area for high-quality, locally raised beef. That’s when we decided to take a chance and raise steers to serve our community.”

PDY began serving Dreamland Farms beef in January. The district is currently purchasing two types of beef from the farm: nearly 50% F1 Wagyu cross and the remainder from 100% native steers, an Angus/Simmental cross. All calves are born and raised in Northwest Ohio.

“I’ve always felt a strong pull to give back, because as a former student I remember how much the community supported me,” Triana shared. “Now I get to return that support in a meaningful way. All our calves are born and raised right here in Northwest Ohio, and I’m incredibly grateful for the community and the school for giving me the opportunity to give back.”

Through this partnership, Dreamland Farms has worked closely with the district to ensure costs remain comparable to, and in some cases lower than, those of previous vendors. Importantly, PDY’s food service program is fully self-sustaining and operates without the use of local taxpayer dollars.

The district’s long-term goal is to transition to using 100% locally grown beef in all applicable menu items. By increasing scratch cooking and sourcing locally, PDY aims to reduce costs while providing students with fresher, more robust, and healthier meal options.

“Our partnership with Dreamland farms reflects our commitment to supporting local farms and businesses while providing healthier options for our students. We look forward to further collaboration with members of our community on student services, experiences, and curriculum at PDY.”
