Graduation
Our district is committed to helping every student, including those with disabilities, successfully graduate with a high school diploma. Students with IEPs are expected to meet the same graduation requirements as their peers, unless their IEP team determines a different path is appropriate under state law. Starting at age 14, each student’s graduation plan is built into their IEP and updated each year to support both academic and career goals. We closely monitor progress, provide necessary supports, and step in early if a student is at risk of falling behind. Our goal is to ensure all students are prepared for life after high school, whether that means college, career, or other postsecondary opportunities. Eligibility for Services
Students must meet three criteria to receive special education services (an evaluation team report is completed by the school psychologist followed by a team meeting to review the results):
1. The determining factor for the child's poor performance is not due to a lack of appropriate instruction in reading or math or the child's limited English proficiency.
2. The child must meet Ohio’s qualifications for one or more of the 13 disabilities listed in IDEA: Autism, Deaf-Blindness, Deafness, Emotional Disturbance, Hearing Impairment, Intellectual Disability, Multiple Disabilities, Orthopedic Impairment, Other Health Impairment, Specific Learning Disability, Speech or Language Impairment, Traumatic Brain Injury, Visual Impairment.
3. The student's disability must have an adverse effect on his/her academic performance to such a degree that the student requires specially designed instruction.
If a student qualifies for specialized instruction an individual education program (IEP) will be drafted by an intervention specialist and again a team will meet, including; parents, teacher(s), an intervention specialist, an administrator and/or any other individual who will be a part of the child’s education, to determine placement and services on the IEP. The IEP will be reviewed and updated annually.
Doe v. State of Ohio Settlement
A settlement agreement in the class action Doe v. State of Ohio was reached in November 2019. This settlement involved 11 districts in Ohio. Pike-Delta-York Local School District was NOT one of the districts included; however, all public school districts in Ohio are required to notify families of this proposed class action settlement.
